The IPZ designation recognizes the Olympic Peninsula’s potential to grow local businesses through innovation support and entrepreneur development. “Growing our own” economic development replaces the old model of relying on business recruitment or “smokestack chasing.”
The four participants that applied for the IPZ designation were Battelle’s Marine Science Lab in Sequim, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, Peninsula College, and the Clallam Economic Development Council. This group is developing a roadmap that identifies renewable energy solutions such as wind, wave and tidal power. Its mission is to encourage, support, and catalyze the development of these new technologies as a way of diversifying our natural resources economy.

While the IPZ team continues to focus on Sequim’s Marine Science Laboratory’s intellectual properties that could be incubated into viable clean tech, high wage businesses, we realize that there are many other ideas and innovations that could become viable local business opportunities. We continue to develop the steps and services required to assist any innovator or entrepreneur in getting a viable idea ready for licensing or business development: |
